Our Founder & History

In Memoriam: Jim Whitten, Founder of Whitten Building Envelope Consultants

Jim Whitten embarked on his journey as a dedicated consultant from the confines of his home in 1999, establishing a sole proprietorship in his home office.  Prior to this venture, he honed his expertise as a real estate developer, owning a roofing construction company, working as a roof consultant for Law Engineering, a global engineering and consulting firm in their buildings and facilities group, and after retiring from Law, working for a large commercial roofing contractor.  While many in his network believed he was nearing retirement after retiring from the commercial roofing contractor, Jim’s true passion lay in his work. His home office consulting business thrived such that in January 2005 he built an office in his back yard with enough space for a staff of four.  With continued success, in June 2007 he took the bold step of incorporating and transforming his venture into an LLC.

Having painstakingly built the company from the ground up, Jim’s commitment extended beyond just client satisfaction; he placed a strong emphasis on nurturing his employees, ensuring they had a clear path for personal and professional growth. This culture, deeply rooted in valuing others and leaving no question unanswered, has paved the way for the growth and prominence of Whitten’s building envelope consulting services business.

Whitten Building Envelope Consultants, the legacy born from Jim’s vision, specializes in providing independent building envelope consulting services. Their clients span the educational, institutional, governmental, private and historic sectors.  Jim’s indomitable spirit and unwavering dedication have left an indelible mark on the industry, and his legacy continues to thrive through the company he founded.

With profound gratitude and respect, we remember Jim Whitten for his vision, leadership, and enduring impact on the world of roofing and waterproofing consulting services.  His legacy lives on through the thriving success of Whitten Building Envelope Consultants.
